Does Watch Walks work with your device?

Almost certainly. Watch Walks runs on Garmin, Wear OS and Apple Watch, and it can read your steps from Apple Health or Health Connect. Here is exactly what works, and how to get going on each.

Garmin

Garmin is the primary supported watch path. Watch Walks installs from the Connect IQ store and runs the trail right on the watch, no phone needed.

Supported watches
Most modern Connect IQ watches work, including the Forerunner, Fenix, Epix, Venu, Vivoactive, Instinct, Enduro and Marq families. If your watch can install apps from the Connect IQ store, it can run Watch Walks.
How steps count
The watch counts your everyday steps on its own. Open the app now and then so it can move your journey forward. No GPS, and no workout to start.
Get set up
Install the free Watch Walks app from the Connect IQ store, with the Inca Trail included, then add more trails in the free phone companion. Garmin setup guide →

Apple

On Apple, Watch Walks pairs an iPhone app with an Apple Watch app and reads your steps from Apple Health.

Supported devices
iPhone on iOS 16 or later, with Apple Watch Series 4 or later on watchOS 10 or later. The Apple Watch is optional but lovely on the wrist, with a progress complication for your watch face.
How steps count
Watch Walks reads the steps Apple Health already records from your iPhone and Apple Watch together, including the steps inside a tracked walk or run.
Get set up
Install from the App Store, allow Apple Health to share your step count, and start walking. Get it on the App Store, or read the Apple setup guide →

Android and Wear OS

On Android, the free phone app carries your journey, and a Wear OS watch app puts it on your wrist.

Supported watches
Wear OS 3 or newer, including Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and later, Google Pixel Watch, recent Mobvoi TicWatch and OnePlus Watch models. A tile shows your distance and next landmark at a glance.
Phone on its own
No watch? The free Android phone app works on its own using your phone's step counter, or steps pulled in through Health Connect (below).
Get set up
The phone app is out now: get it on Google Play. The watch app is in review and installs from the Play Store on the watch itself the day it clears (where each store is up to). Wear OS setup guide →

Step sources through Health Connect

On Android, Watch Walks can read your daily step total from Health Connect, Google's shared health hub. That means steps recorded by many other apps and devices can carry you down the trail, even brands we do not pair with directly.

Apps and devices that commonly write steps to Health Connect

  • Fitbit
  • Samsung Health
  • Google Fit
  • Garmin Connect
  • Oura
  • Withings
  • Peloton
  • Pixel Watch
  • Amazfit / Zepp
  • Xiaomi Mi Fitness

This list is set by Health Connect, not by us, and it can change over time. Watch Walks reads whatever step data an app chooses to write to Health Connect, so we cannot control or guarantee which apps are included. These are step-data sources through Health Connect, not watches we pair with directly. Apple devices use Apple Health instead, and Garmin watches run the trail on the watch itself.
