Delete your account and your data
This page is about Watch Walks, the walking app published by Watch Walks on Google Play. Most people never make an account at all: you only have one if you chose to sign in with Google so your journey would survive a new phone. If you did, here is how to remove it.
Delete it yourself, in the app
- Open Watch Walks on your Android phone.
- Tap the settings icon at the top of the screen.
- Choose Your journey.
- Tap Delete cloud backup.
- Confirm with Yes, delete it.
That removes your backup and your Watch Walks account from our database. It happens straight away, not on a queue.
Or ask us to do it
If you have already uninstalled the app, or you would rather we did it, email support@watchwalks.com from the Google address you signed in with, and say you want your account deleted. We will delete it and reply to confirm, within 30 days and usually within a few.
Email from the same address if you can. It is how we know the account is yours.
What is deleted
- Your backup record. The distance you have walked on each trail, which trails you own, your walking streak and your best streak, and the time it was last updated.
- Your Watch Walks account. The sign-in record itself, which holds the email address of the Google account you used.
Both are removed permanently. We do not keep a copy, and there is no archive to restore from, so it cannot be undone.
One honest detail: the app deletes your data first and then the account record. Occasionally Google asks for a fresh sign-in before it will remove an account record, and if that happens while you are deleting, your data is still gone but the empty account may remain. If you want that tidied up too, email us and we will remove it.
What is kept, and why
- The journey on your phone stays. Deleting the backup does not wipe the app on the device in your hand. To clear that as well, use Settings → Start over, or uninstall the app.
- Your purchases belong to Google Play, not to us. Any trails you bought are recorded against your Google account by Play, under Google's own terms. Deleting your Watch Walks account does not cancel or refund them, and we cannot delete Play's records. If you reinstall and sign in again, Play will still know what you own.
- Nothing else. We hold no other record of you. There are no analytics, no advertising profile and no mailing list, because the app collects none of that in the first place.
Retention: your backup and account are deleted immediately when you confirm, or within 30 days if you email us. We keep no separate backups of the database and apply no additional retention period.
You may not have an account at all.
Watch Walks works fully without one, and signing in is optional. Open Settings → Your journey: if it invites you to sign in, there is no account and nothing to delete. The full detail of what is stored, and where, is in our privacy policy.
